
In the year 1970 Stevie Wonder left MoTown and recorded two solo albums by himself. Berry Gordy was shocked to be informed of this by Stevie Wonder and Berry Gord accepted Stevie Wonder's request of more freedom and full creative control and the right to all his music. Stevie Wonder signed a contract worth thirteen million dollars with MoTown Records in 1972. Stevie Wonder received a higher royalty as well as full creative control. Additionally, he was granted the right to his own songs which was rare for artists could obtain at that time. The agreement also allowed Wonder's songs and videos to discuss controversial subjects like drug abuse, war and poverty. His album from 1972, Music Of My Mind was the first album to be released under his new MoTown agreement. In late 1972 Stevie Wonder released an album that is today regarded as a historic piece in music, called Talking Book. The album featured the most popular hit song, Superstition.
